The Real Problem

Your personal policy has a dangerous blind spot.

Most independent contractors assume their personal auto policy covers them on the job. It doesn't. Insurance companies put a commercial use exclusion in every personal auto policy — which means the moment you drive for work, you're exposed.

This isn't a technicality. In a serious accident, your insurer can deny your entire claim, leaving you personally responsible for the other driver's medical bills, vehicle damage, and legal fees.

Get Commercial Coverage
Personal policies exclude commercial use
Your insurer can legally deny any claim that happens while you're using your vehicle for work — driving to job sites, hauling equipment, running business errands. The word "commercial use" in your policy gives them that right.
You're personally on the hook
Without commercial coverage, a serious accident can expose everything you've built — your savings, your home, your tools, your future earnings. A judgment can follow you for years.
Contractors require a certificate of insurance
Most commercial clients, property managers, and general contractors require proof of commercial auto coverage before you step on site. A personal policy won't cut it — you need a proper cert.

What Earners Say

From the people Pouch protects.

"I've been a self-employed electrician for 11 years and never had commercial coverage because nobody could explain it simply or get me covered quickly. Pouch had me on the phone for 20 minutes and sent the cert the same day. That's it."

James R.
Self-employed electrician · 1 vehicle

"My general contractor kept kicking me off job sites because I didn't have a commercial auto cert. My personal auto agent had no idea what I needed. Pouch knew exactly what I needed and had me covered before the end of the day."

Tony M.

"I run a 3-person landscaping crew with two trucks and a trailer. Pouch covered everything under one policy — including the trailer — for less than I expected. The installment plan made it easy on my cash flow."

Common Questions

Questions from workers like you.

I use my personal truck for work. Do I really need commercial coverage?

Yes — without exception. Personal auto policies contain a commercial use exclusion. The moment you use your vehicle for business purposes — driving to a job site, hauling tools, carrying a client — your insurer can legally deny any claim. Commercial coverage closes that gap entirely.

I'm just starting my business. Will Pouch cover me?

Yes. New ventures are welcome as long as you have prior experience in your trade or industry. You don't need years of business history — if you know the trade and you're working it, we can cover you.

Can I cover my work trailer on the same policy as my truck?

Yes. Trailers are available on a stated value basis. Eligible types include utility, landscape, cargo/enclosed, and small dump trailers up to $25,000 in total value and 4,000 lbs GVWR. Gooseneck and car haulers are not eligible.

What if I need a certificate of insurance for a job site?

Certificates of insurance are issued immediately after your policy is bound. If a general contractor or property manager needs a cert before you can start work, we'll have it to you the same day you call. Call (844) 768-2448 and press 3 for underwriting.

How many vehicles can I put on one policy?

Up to 10 vehicles. Policies with 5 or more vehicles require underwriting approval, and we'll ask for 3 years of loss runs and an EIN/TIN for the business. Growing your crew? We scale with you.

Is Comp and Collision included, or do I have to pay extra?

Comprehensive and Collision are optional add-ons. You can choose liability only, or add physical damage coverage per vehicle. All physical damage is on an Actual Cash Value (ACV) basis. Deductible options range from $100 to $5,000.

My state isn't listed. When will you be available there?

Currently available in Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, New Mexico, Tennessee, and Texas. More states are in the works. Call (844) POUCHIT or email Agent@pouchinsurance.com to be added to the notification list for your state.

Can I pay monthly instead of all at once?

Yes. You can pay in full (best value, no installment fees) or choose an installment plan with a down payment followed by monthly payments. Installment fee is $10 per payment. Agency policy fee of $45 per term applies to all policies.
